Week One – Frock Shoppe
November 11th, 2011 § 1 Comment
Week one of our prep on our addition to Community Thrift and Vintage (subtitled- The Frock Shoppe). From the windows you might think we are opening a thrift furniture store, but everything that’s been acquired has a place in the plans for Jeff & Jenni & Marla.
It’s been a ‘white out’ of painting thus far. http://ow.ly/i/l7hK http://ow.ly/i/l7hW http://ow.ly/i/l7i7 http://ow.ly/i/l7ip

We are pleased to announce that we will be opening a SECOND store (cross your fingers) for December 2011!
We got the keys to the new location at 311 Carrall Street! It’s super close by, just around the corner from our present shop. Right next door to Nelson the Seagull, in the block between Hastings and Cordova.
Our second location will be the home of our Frock Shoppe. We will be moving all our touchable silks and ladies wear to the Carrall Street location and feature affordable, vintage inspired jewelry. Truly needed in Gastown.
Don’t worry though… we will maintain our amazing selection for your everyday needs at Community Thrift and Vintage. We will be beefing up the menswear for you stylish gents and keeping the perfectly oversized sweaters and t-shirts a-flowing… just more for all!
You helped this happen by your positive responses to our shop and amazing support online and in person.
We’ll be keeping you on the up and up…

Fall!

Every fashionable guy and gal knows that fall time is the best time to play dress up! These cool sunny days inspire me to wear my craziest combinations. Today I think I’ll put on black tights (still can’t escape the black tights… my legs are on the plump side), multi coloured sequined hot pants, a black silk blouse, and an amber and black space-dye cotton sweater layered over top, with creamy orange leather ankle boots. Sigh. Remember reading the Baby Sitters Club books? I can’t remember which character had the amazing fashion sense, but I do remember loving when her outfits were described on the pages. And somehow it was better to imagine what exactly they looked like than to see a picture. Once she once wore an Eiffel-Tower-print skirt and ever since then, I’ve been looking for one.
Before and After

Who doesn’t love a before and after story! Makeover! Some highlights from the last two months are getting to know handrail code, endless cedar sanding, and that time I cried thinking we’d never finish. Here are some before and after pictures of Jeff Lee’s hard work!
June 8th!

After two solid months of demolition and renovation, the store is ready to go at 41 West Cordova Street, between Carrall and Abbott. We’ll open our doors on June 8th, whether or not every item is priced on the floor! Wheeeee!
Still looking for that perfect space…

Is it too much to ask for a space on an up and coming street in an up and coming neighborhood to be priced reasonably? Vancouver rents are crazy! Ah well. Here’s hoping the space we’re viewing on Monday morning will work out! (note from the future: it didn’t…)
In the meantime, I’ll start documenting all the goings on involved in bringing this project into fruition. What is Community Thrift and Vintage, you ask? Here’s an excerpt from the executive summary of the business plan I’ve been working on for the past few months:
Community Thrift & Vintage is a social enterprise devoted to selling hand picked thrift and vintage clothing in a warm and welcoming environment. Our purpose is to inspire positive transformation through fashion. We will accomplish this by having the best selection of used clothing at the best price, by employing women in transition from detox in a graduated job-training program, and by donating all profits back into the DTES community.
If you have unwanted clothing that you’d like to donate, please get in touch with me at communitythriftandvintage@gmail.com. This truly is a good cause and I’m excited to be a part of it!
Here’s my personal inspiration for this week:
